Following a decision by Israel’s Ray Shipping to build a further eight (8) 6,000 unit pure car and truck carriers (PCTC) in Poland, Swedish cargo access manufacturer, TTS – Dry Cargo Division, Gothenburg, a subsidiary of Norway’s TTS Marine ASA, has won the order to build and supply the cargo access equipment for the additional eight ships, building at Gdynia Shipyard, a follow-on from the order received by TTS earlier this year for the similar equipment for four (4) smaller Car Carriers to be delivered during 2005/2006. The new orders, Hull Nos 8168/13-20 are to be delivered after 2006. This brings the total to twenty-five (25) newbuildings now being supplied by TTS for this owner.
Under a design, build and install contract, the TTS equipment comprises:
· Stern ramp and door
· Side ramp and door
· Four (4) movable ramps with covers
· Six (6) movable ramps without covers
· Four (4) liftable car decks
· Pilot doors
· Bunker doors
· Hydraulic system
· Electrical system
All the equipment is designed to adhere to the rules of Det Norske Veritas (DNV), and will also comply with all of the relevant safety conventions for such vessels.
Each vessel will have a total of 12 decks for loading. Cars will enter/leave the vessels on Deck No. 5 via either a stern ramp (max load 150 tonnes), located on the vessel’s port side, or a quarter ramp (max load 22 tonnes), lowering onto the vessel’s starboard side.
The quarter ramp (and combined weather-tight door) is constructed in three sections. Flaps will be provided at the forward and aft ends and between section 1 and 2 (if necessary) to provide smooth transition between the ramp and ship, and the quay, to distribute the load forces between the ramp and the quay. The 38 m long three-sectional stern ramp is hydraulically operated and will provide weather-tightness to the stern opening. The driveway has a width of 7 m minimum, although it is 15 m wide at the connection between the ramp and the ship.
The two-sectional side ramp is also wire-operated and is 25 m in length, with a width of driveway of 6.5 m. Although the side door is arranged for loading/unloading operations on Deck 5, it is also possible to use the ramp from Deck 6 when necessary.
Hydraulically-operated liftable decks are arranged on Decks 2, 4, 6 and 8 with movable ramps located between each deck. TTS is also supplying two hydraulically-operated bunker doors, on the vessel’s port and starboard sides
Norway's TTS Marine ASA comprises three divisions - Material Handling (Drobak), Marine Cranes (Bergen) and Dry Cargo Handling (Sweden). Part of the Dry Cargo Division, TTS Ships Equipment AB, located in Gothenburg, is designated the RoRo equipment 'Centre of Excellence'.
