Sweden’s TTS Ships Equipment, Gothenburg, part of Norway’s TTS marine ASA, Bergen, has won an order from China’s Cosco Nantong Shipyard, located near Shanghai, for the design, supply and installation of cargo access equipment for the conversion of two ro/ro vessel owned by Norway’s Eidsiva Rederi ASA, Oslo. Norway’s Barber Marine Consultants, Oslo are the technical managers of the conversion project.
The two vessels involved are the 16,940 grt Vinni and her sistership Vibeke, which were originally built as the Novorossiysk and Sochi for Russia’s Novoship by Russia’s Baltiiyskiy Zavod, St Petersberg, during 1994 and 1996 respectively.
Each vessel is to be fitted with a new garage on the existing weather deck, the necessary equipment comprising:
· Two end-hinged hoistable ramps (with a Uniformly Distributed Load (UDL) of 250 kg/m2 and a maximum axle load of 2 tonnes), for access to the garage.
· An electrically-operated, gas-tight ramp way door between Decks 5 and 6 – dimensions 4.0 m x 2.0 m.
· A hydraulic pump station, to be located in the new garage.
Work, which will adhere to all the latest Lloyd’s Register (LR) classification and safety rules governing such vessels, is to be carried out during July and September this year (2005).
